The idea of using the opposite approach may seem almost luddite but its not and this is well though through. In today's world the importance of decreasing our footprint is crucial even while we all must acknowledge that we are part of the problem and need to become part of the solution.
According to this article published on AIGA, the "communications industry" (internet included) will lead to 20% of world electrical consumption in 2025. That is humongous! In a world that is hyper-wired we need to create spaces where we unplug, unwind and simply go to sleep or get bored. when the sun is down maybe just talk to each other instead of staring at out screens!
Why not as our ancestors did that and they did just fine! Low tech magazine previous website was guilty of the same practices of hi-tech consumption till they decided to walk their talk and reduce their own footprint by using solar powered servers and designing to load quickly. On sunny days, the site runs at full capacity and on rainy days it may not load at all. If it rains, just go get a drink and relax.
